Waste and recycling dates altered for Christmas and New Year

Flintshire County Council has confirmed opening times and service changes for the Christmas and New Year period.

Waste and Recycling Collections will change on the following dates:

Thursday 25 December collections move to Saturday 27 December

Friday 26 December collections move to Sunday 28 December

Thursday 1 January collections move to Saturday 3 January

Missed collection reports will not be taken over the festive period and will resume from 2 January 2026.

Household Recycling Centres across Buckley, Greenfield, Mold, Oakenholt and Sandycroft will close from 24 to 26 December and again on 1 January. Sites will open on 27, 28, 29 and 30 December, with Greenfield and Buckley offering extra opening hours on Wednesday 31 December from 9am to 4pm.

Clinical waste collections will operate as usual on 24 and 31 December. Missed days on 25, 26 December and 1 January will move to the following Saturday or Sunday as detailed in the council’s schedule.

County Offices in Flint and Tŷ Dewi Sant, Ewloe, will close at 5pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 8.30am on Friday 2 January 2026.

The Register Office at Llwynegrin Hall, Mold, will close earlier at 2pm on Christmas Eve, operating a reduced service until 9.30am on Friday 2 January 2026.

The office will continue to open as required for the registration of births, deaths and marriages.

Residents are advised to check the Gwella website for local library and leisure centre opening times.

Flintshire Connects Centres will operate reduced hours:

Flint will close at 4.30pm on Monday 22 December, reopening on 29, 30 and 31 December.

Buckley will close at 4.30pm on Tuesday 23 December until Tuesday 6 January.

Mold will close at 4.30pm on Monday 22 December until Monday 5 January.

Connah’s Quay will close at 1pm on Wednesday 24 December until Friday 2 January.

Holywell will close at 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December until Friday 2 January.

Housing Repairs will operate as normal from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Only emergency repairs will be handled on 29, 30 and 31 December.

Streetscene services will continue to operate from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding the main bank holidays. Waste and recycling collections may take place on different days or times than usual due to the festive schedule.

Residents are asked to reduce large cardboard packaging to fit into collection vehicles and to use Household Recycling Centres for excess materials.
