Volunteers sought for Flint Coastguard rescue team

Flint Coastguard Rescue Team is looking for volunteers to join its ranks, offering local residents the opportunity to support emergency response work along the coast.
The team operates as part of HM Coastguard, the UK’s 999 maritime and coastal emergency service.
Coastguard Rescue Officers respond to a wide range of incidents, including mud rescues, cliff rescues, searches for missing people, and support during flooding and other emergencies.
Volunteers may be called upon to assist people in distress on beaches, mudflats, cliffs, and at sea.
The role also involves monitoring coastal hazards, such as pollution and erosion, and engaging with the public to promote coastal safety.
No previous experience is required, with full training and equipment provided.
Training includes first aid, water rescue, map reading, and search techniques, along with specialist skills suited to local conditions, such as rope or mud rescues.
The position is unpaid, although volunteers can claim expenses.
Applicants must be willing to respond to callouts at any time, day or night, and work in potentially hazardous conditions for extended periods.
HM Coastguard says the role can be balanced alongside full-time employment, subject to employer consent to attend incidents during working hours.
Applications are open until 31 January 2026.
HM Coastguard says that where there is high demand, recruitment windows may close early at some locations or be extended at others.
Applications can be made online through the UK Government website.
