Vandalism forces removal of zip wire seat at Sandycroft children’s play area

The zip wire seat at a Sandycroft children’s play area has been removed after someone repeatedly encouraged a large dog to bite and attack it, Queensferry Community Council has said.
The council says the seat at the Phoenix Street play area had to be taken down because it had become a safety risk to children, and that replacing it repeatedly has come at a cost to the community.
Queensferry Community Council has issued an appeal for help to stop ongoing damage to the play area and to identify those responsible.
The council says there has also been damage to the roundabout at Phoenix Street which it believes is connected to risky stunts involving the equipment and an e-bike or scooter.
In its statement, the council referenced a fatality in the Cheshire area which it said involved playground equipment being used to act out a similar stunt with a roundabout and an e-bike or scooter.
The council is urging parents and guardians to explain the dangers of risky behaviour on play equipment, and to encourage respect for community spaces.
Dog owners are being asked to keep pets under control, to not enter the play area, and to keep animals away from the play equipment.
Queensferry Community Council said it has invested in the Phoenix Street play area for many years alongside Flintshire County Council, and that repairing or replacing damaged equipment takes time and money.
“Repairing equipment takes time and money, with some equipment having to be removed due to damage,” the council said.
“This affects the children and young people who use it the most.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the local Police Community Support Officer or a member of Queensferry Community Council.
The council says all information received will be handled in confidence.
