Two men have been jailed after stealing cars from driveways across North Wales and Cheshire in a two-day spree that ended with high-speed police pursuits and crashes in the Midlands.

Kyle Draper, 21, and Benjamin Evans, 20, both of no fixed address, were sentenced at Chester Crown Court on 2 April.

Draper received 42 months in prison.

Evans was sentenced to 45 months.

Both had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to four burglaries, two thefts and dangerous driving.

Cheshire Police launched an investigation after a series of burglaries on 2 and 3 February.

Officers identified two stolen vehicles, a Hyundai and a Seat Arona from North Wales, travelling in convoy to Chester on the evening of 2 February.

CCTV showed both vehicles approaching the city centre later that night.

Further footage placed them in the area when an Audi Q3 was stolen from an address in Upton.

The Audi and the Seat were then captured travelling in convoy to Crewe, where the Hyundai was dumped and later recovered by police.

A Volvo was then stolen in Crewe.

Both the Audi and the Volvo were captured travelling between Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Officers from the Cheshire Police Roads and Crime Unit spotted two stolen cars on the afternoon of 3 February and attempted to stop them.

Both vehicles fled, driving dangerously throughout the pursuit.

The Audi crashed in Staffordshire and Draper was arrested.

The Volvo continued into the West Midlands at high speed before crashing.

Evans was arrested at the scene.

Mobile phones seized from both men were examined as part of the investigation.

A footwear identification officer confirmed that Draper’s footwear was found at the Upton address, and that Evans’s footwear was highly likely to have been present there too.

PC Jack Ryder, of Cheshire Police, said: “These two reckless young men targeted so many addresses in such a short period of time, but didn’t count on us closing in on them and stopping them in their tracks, not only with the help of our colleagues in specialist departments but also our colleagues in the West Midlands.

“As a result of our combined efforts we were able to take them down and get justice for the victims.

“I hope this reassures people that we are relentless in our pursuit of those who break the law.”
