Snow affects A494 near Gwernymynydd as yellow warning continues

Parts of the A494 in Flintshire are being affected by snow and ice, despite traffic cameras suggesting main routes remain open.
Traffic information service Inrix reported the A494 was “just passable due to snow” in both directions between Lon Y Mynydd and the A5119 Ruthin Road at the Gwernymynydd roundabout.
Snow cover has also been reported on the A55 around Dobshill, which appears to be reduced to a single lane in both directions, but remains open.
Arriva Buses Walews has said all its services “are suspended until further notice due to extreme weather.”

By contrast, traffic cameras along the the A55 through Flintshire show some icy and snowy conditions but traffic appears to be flowing normally.
Coleg Cambria has confirmed that all of its sites will be closed today, Monday 5 January due to bad weather, with lessons moving online.
The college said the decision was taken because of snow and ice warnings in place, which cover Flintshire and Wrexham
A yellow Met Office warning for snow and ice is in force across Flintshire and much of Wales from Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning. Forecasters say snow showers are expected to move further inland, with 1 to 3 centimetres possible in many areas and up to 5 to 8 centimetres in a few inland and higher locations. Icy patches are also expected to form widely on untreated roads and pavements.
A second yellow warning remains in place into Monday and overnight, with further sleet and snow showers and an increased risk of ice as temperatures fall below freezing.
North Wales Police said drivers should consider conditions carefully before travelling, particularly in higher or more exposed areas.
Chief Inspector Emma Parry said: “We’d ask everyone to please consider the weather conditions before venturing out, and stay away from mountainous or higher areas particularly affected.
“If you are travelling, please check your routes and the weather along the way and at your end destination.
“Please be reassured that we are working with our partners and are here to support our communities.”
