Shotton councillor calls for stronger waste enforcement

A Shotton councillor has called for stronger enforcement and investment in CCTV to tackle ongoing problems with fly-tipping and overflowing bins in the town.
Photographs shared by Independent Councillor Mike Evans show piles of black bin bags, household waste and discarded items including a mattress left in alleyways and beside properties around Shotton.
Cllr Evans described the scenes as “a snapshot of some of the areas around our town” and said the problem needed addressing “ASAP before these cracks get glossed over by the high street improvement plans.”
He said there were “too many areas on the riverside of town to list or to post photos” and called for “investment in cameras and giving the Enforcement Officers more powers to fine and remove a lot of the red tape to quicken the procedure.”
Cllr Evans added: “It’s all about getting the priorities right. Let’s get our town back to somewhere we are proud to call home.”
Flintshire Council’s waste and enforcement teams are responsible for managing fly-tipping reports and waste collection services across the county.
The authority encourages residents to report incidents of illegal dumping through its online system or via the council contact centre.
