Police warn of scam calls as fraudsters pose as Met officers

North Wales Police are urging people to remain vigilant after a rise in scam phone calls involving fraudsters pretending to be Metropolitan Police officers.
Around 12 incidents have been reported in the last three weeks.
In each case the caller claimed there had been suspicious activity on the victim’s bank card and that a courier would be sent to collect it.
Police say none of the targeted residents handed over their cards and instead reported the attempts.
Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards from the North Wales Police Economic Crime Unit said: “We want to reassure the public that the police will never ask for your bank details over the phone, nor will we ever send a courier to collect your bank cards.
“If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and contact 101 to verify its legitimacy.
“We would remind everyone to remain cautious around this type of fraudulent activity and to report any suspicious calls.”
Further advice on avoiding fraud-related crime is available on the North Wales Police website.
