Police urge caution as snow and ice warning continues

Police are urging people to take extra care overnight as snow and ice are expected to cause difficult conditions across Flintshire and wider parts of Wales.
North Wales Police said people should consider conditions carefully before travelling, particularly in higher or more exposed areas.
Chief Inspector Emma Parry said: “We’d ask everyone to please consider the weather conditions before venturing out, and stay away from mountainous or higher areas particularly affected.
“If you are travelling, please check your routes and the weather along the way and at your end destination.
“Please be reassured that we are working with our partners and are here to support our communities.”
A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place, covering large parts of Wales including Flintshire. The warning states that snow and ice have the potential to cause disruption to travel from Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning.
According to the warning, some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Icy patches are expected on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the risk of slips and falls.
The Met Office said snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales overnight. In many areas, 1 to 3 centimetres could develop by Monday morning, with 5 to 8 centimetres possible in a few inland and higher locations. Icy conditions are expected to form widely.
A second yellow warning is also in place into Tuesday morning, with scattered sleet and snow showers and a continued risk of ice overnight.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said:
“As we begin the first full working week of the year, we face a range of winter weather hazards with snow showers and ice.
“Elsewhere in the UK, snow showers, ice and frost are expected at times but milder air will make attempts to spread eastward from Tuesday.”
People are being advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and travel information, and to take extra care if journeys are necessary.
