The turkey has been eaten, the house is full of chocolate and mounting piles of rubbish fill the family home.

Now the dust is starting to settle after Christmas, households across the region are left with the task of getting rid of all that waste.

But while the leftovers may be too overwhelming for even the recyling bins to cope with, Flintshire’s recycling centres are open for the post-festive rush.

Recycling facilities are ready to collect Christmas cards, boxes, unwanted toys and plastic sweet tubs, in the hope they can one day used again.

Popular items such as glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans, tins, food, paper and cardboard should always be recycled to reduce the need for landfill.

But most Christmas cards, cardboard packaging, wrapping paper and paper that don’t have glitter on are also recyclable.

Buckley, Greenfield, Mold, Sandycroft & Rockliffe centres are all open seven days a week.
