The Chester Grosvenor has announced the appointment of award-winning chef Sam Griffiths as its new Executive Chef.

Griffiths, winner of the National Chef of Wales title, trained under Michelin-starred chef Simon Radley at the five-star Chester hotel.

His return marks the beginning of a new phase of investment and growth for the Grosvenor’s renowned dining venues, including three-AA Rosette Arkle, two-AA Rosette La Brasserie, and the hotel’s traditional Afternoon Tea.

Now leading a kitchen team of around 30, Griffiths will oversee the Grosvenor’s culinary direction as it strengthens its reputation as one of the North West’s leading luxury destinations.

Having first joined the hotel in 2016 under Radley’s mentorship, Griffiths helped relaunch Arkle in 2022, redefining its modern fine-dining approach while preserving its heritage.

Since leaving the Grosvenor, he has taken on senior roles at Palé Hall Hotel and Upstairs at the Grill, and represented Wales at the Worldchefs Global Chef’s Challenge in Abu Dhabi.

Known for combining classic British technique with light, contemporary influences, Griffiths is recognised for championing local and seasonal ingredients. His style draws on Asian flavours while maintaining a refined, balanced approach.

Sam Griffiths said: “Returning to the Grosvenor feels like coming home. This is where my career really took off, and to now lead the kitchens that shaped me is a real privilege. My goal is simple, to celebrate beautiful ingredients, support and inspire the team, and ensure every guest enjoys the exceptional standard The Chester Grosvenor is known for.”

Neil Butler, General Manager of The Chester Grosvenor, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Sam back. His skill, leadership and understanding of the Grosvenor ethos make him the perfect choice to take our dining forward. He brings fresh energy and ambition to one of the region’s most respected culinary teams.”

Griffiths succeeds Elliott Hill, who played a key role in developing the hotel’s dining across Arkle, La Brasserie, Afternoon Tea and banqueting.
