Murder charge following Christmas Day death in St Asaph

A 66-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 68-year-old man in St Asaph on Christmas Day.
Emergency services were called to a property on High Street shortly after 12pm on Thursday 25 December following reports of a disturbance.
A man was taken to hospital but later died the same day.
James Ronald Hughes, of High Street, St Asaph, was arrested and later charged with murder. He is due to appear before Llandudno Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 29 December.
Detective Chief Inspector Eleri Thomas said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Old Palace Flats and witnessed or heard anything prior to 12pm to contact police.
“Investigations are ongoing, and a police presence remains in the area for reassurance purposes.
“I would reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident, and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the matter.
“As charges are now authorised in this investigation, I would also stress that nothing should be posted online that could be prejudicial to future court proceedings or undermine the criminal justice process.”
North Wales Police said the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via the North Wales Police website or by calling 101, quoting reference 25001050086.
