The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Flintshire, in force from 6pm on Saturday 4 April until noon on Easter Sunday.

Peak gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected widely across the area, with 60 to 70mph possible in more exposed locations.

The warning covers a spell of strong west to south-westerly winds as a rapidly deepening area of low pressure moves north-eastwards across or close to north-western parts of the UK overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley said: “A significant cold plunge from Canada into the North Atlantic will impact our weekend weather, strengthening the jet stream and spinning up a deep area of low pressure towards the northwest of the UK on Saturday night.”

“This will lead to a spell of very strong winds later on Saturday, and overnight into the morning of Easter Sunday.”

“Winds should gradually ease through Easter Sunday as the area of low pressure clears to the North Sea.”

Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, with a chance of cancellations to some services.

High-sided vehicles are expected to face delays on exposed routes and bridges, with some roads and bridges potentially closing.

There is a slight chance of power cuts that could affect mobile phone coverage, and a slight chance of damage to buildings including tiles blown from roofs.

The Met Office rates the warning as very low likelihood with medium impact.

People with loose items in their gardens are advised to secure them before the winds arrive — including bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.

Anyone planning to visit the coastline is warned to stay away from the shoreline during the strongest winds, as large waves can sweep people off their feet even from dry land.

Motorists are advised to check road conditions before setting out this weekend.

The warning was issued at 10:26 on Wednesday 1 April.

The Met Office advises keeping an eye on its latest forecasts at metoffice.gov.uk as the week progresses.
