Man who sexually abused children in Flint jailed decades later

A 58-year-old man has been jailed for 20 years for historic child sex offences in Flint.
Adrian Howarth, of Market Street, Birkenhead, was convicted of ten offences at Caernarfon Crown Court following a trial in November last year.
The offences, which included indecent assault, gross indecency, rape and cruelty to a child, were committed against three victims between the 1980s and 1990s. The victims cannot be named for legal reasons.
At Caernarfon Crown Court today, Wednesday 14 January, Howarth was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was given lifetime restraining orders to protect all three victims.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Tracey Hughes said: “None of these victims should have been subjected to the despicable abuse Howarth put them through, and I commend each of them for their bravery in reporting him and supporting our investigation throughout.”
“As a direct result of their courage, a dangerous predator is now behind bars for a significant period of time.”
“Howarth has shown no remorse for his crimes and instead, forced the victims to relive their trauma through a trial. All three continue to suffer the impact of his offending in their adult lives.”
“I hope this case will encourage others who have been subject to sexual abuse to come forward and be reassured their evidence will be heard, whilst serving as a reminder to any sexual offender that they will face the consequences of their actions – no matter how and when sexual abuse occurred.”
