Flintshire County Council’s Access and Natural Environment Team has been awarded £96,960 in external funding from the Welsh Marine and Fisheries Fund to support improvements to the Flintshire Coast Park.

The funding will be used to deliver on-the-ground safety enhancements and environmental assessments, particularly focused on Greenfield Dock, a busy area used year-round for cockling, fishing, walking, wheeling, and cycling along the Wales Coast Path.

Greenfield Dock is a key location for commercial cockling and fishing, providing local jobs and economic benefit, while also serving as a popular recreational spot offering views of the Dee Estuary.

Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism, said: “This funding comes at a time when external funding is even more crucial. It will enable us to move forward in our ambition for an improved Flintshire Coast Park, whilst protecting users and visitors – who are the lifeblood of our coast. We are committed to ensuring they can continue to enjoy the coast safely for future generations, but it is only through external funding bids that our vision can become a reality.”

Tom Woodall, Access and Natural Environment Manager, said: “Greenfield Dock will benefit from £96,960 from the Welsh Government Welsh Marine and Fisheries Funding to further improve the Flintshire Coast Park.”

Flintshire Coast Park stretches from Saltney to Talacre, taking in Northern Gateway and Garden City, Connah’s Quay, Shotton, Flint, Bagillt, Greenfield, Llanerch-y-Môr, Mostyn, and Gronant.

The latest funding adds to ongoing efforts to upgrade safety, access, and environmental quality across the coast, contributing to the council’s “Connecting Coast to Countryside Project.”

Further information about the funding is available at GOV.WALES, and details about the Flintshire Coast and Countryside can be found on the council’s website.
