Natural Resources Wales has issued a flood alert for the North East Wales coastline, covering areas from the Dee Estuary to Abergele, as Storm Dave brings a Met Office yellow wind warning to Flintshire from 5pm today.

The flood alert warns that flooding is possible along the coast and that people should be prepared.

The Met Office yellow warning for wind covers Flintshire and runs until 7am on Easter Sunday.

Gusts of 50 to 60mph are expected across the area, with 60 to 70mph possible in exposed locations, particularly along the coast.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley said: “We have issued yellow warnings for wind for Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern parts of both England and Wales for Saturday night and into Sunday, when a spell of very strong winds could cause disruption.”

Natural Resources Wales advises people not to drive or walk through floodwater.

The agency says just 30cm, about one foot, of water is enough to carry a car, and 15cm can knock a person off their feet.

People in the affected area are advised to follow their flood plan if they have one, keep their mobile phone charged, and know how to turn off electricity, gas and water supplies.

Those preparing to leave their homes in an emergency are advised to pack essential items including medication, warm clothing, insurance documents and pet care supplies.

Cars, livestock and equipment should be moved away from areas likely to flood where possible.

River levels can be checked at naturalresources.wales/riverlevels.

Floodline can be reached on 0345 988 1188 using quick dial number 501036.

Further information on the flood alert is available at flood-warning.naturalresources.wales/Detail/101WATNE10.

Storm Dave is expected to clear through the early hours of Easter Sunday, with the Met Office forecasting lighter winds through the day.
