Flintshire shoplifter jailed after ignoring a ban covering every store in Wales and England

A prolific shoplifter who targeted stores in Flint and Holywell has been jailed for 40 weeks after admitting seven counts of theft and breaching a restraining order.
Richard Calvert, 46, of no fixed abode, appeared before Wrexham Magistrates Court on 25 March.
He admitted stealing from Sainsbury’s and Aldi in Flint and the Co-op fuel station and Tesco in Holywell between September 2025 and February 2026, repeatedly hiding items inside his jacket before leaving without paying.
Calvert also admitted two counts of breaching a restraining order after entering Tesco in Holywell, despite being subject to a ban from every store in England and Wales.
PC Daniel Reilly, of North Wales Police, said: “Calvert is a prolific offender and has been causing a significant demand to retailers across Flintshire.
“Protecting staff, businesses and their customers from this type of criminality, which has created a significant impact on their wellbeing and business, is our priority.
“We will continue to work with partners and residents to protect those working in the retail sector.”
