Businesses in eight Flintshire town centres can now apply for grants of up to £50,000 to improve their buildings under a scheme run by Flintshire County Council.

The Town Centre Property Improvement Grant (TCPIG) is open to commercial property owners and tenants in Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Flint, Holywell, Mold, Queensferry, Saltney and Shotton.

Grants range from £5,000 to £50,000 and cover up to 70 per cent of eligible project costs.

Applicants must contribute at least 30 per cent of costs themselves, and the grant is paid in arrears — meaning approved works must be completed before funding is released.

The scheme is funded by the UK Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund and supports a range of capital works including shopfront renovations, new signage, external lighting, roofing, structural repairs and energy efficiency upgrades.

Internal works may also be eligible where they form part of a wider external improvement package or involve a change of use.

Applications run in two stages.

Applicants first submit a short Expression of Interest, which is assessed for eligibility and strategic fit.

Those who pass are then invited to submit a full application, reviewed by the council’s Regeneration Panel.

To be eligible, applicants must be commercial property owners or leaseholders with at least three years remaining on their lease.

Independent businesses, SMEs, social enterprises, charities and community organisations can all apply.

Residential properties are not eligible.

David Fitzsimon, Chief Officer for Place and Growth at Flintshire County Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to deliver the Town Centre Property Improvement Grant Scheme across town centres in Flintshire with Pride In Place Impact Funds from April 2026.

“Over the last three years, 43 properties have been improved and it is evident there is strong demand for the 2026 scheme, with enquiries already coming in from a number of businesses.

“We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with owners and tenants of commercial premises to improve their properties and support the sustainability and growth of their businesses and positively contributing to the vitality of our town centres.”

Businesses can apply by completing an Expression of Interest form at www.flintshire.gov.uk/TCPIG.

The council’s Regeneration team can also be contacted at [email protected] for pre-application advice on eligibility.
