Flintshire animal rescue centre urges road safety action

North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) is urging Flintshire County Council to take action over what it describes as a dangerous stretch of road outside its centre in Trelogan.
The charity says speeding traffic near the rural rescue site puts volunteers, visitors, and animals at risk, and is calling for a lower speed limit, new signage, and road safety markings.
In a message shared on social media, NCAR’s Nicky Owen said: “We urgently need your help to make the road leading to North Clwyd Animal Rescue safer. The current speed limit makes this stretch incredibly dangerous — it’s an accident waiting to happen. For the safety of our volunteers, staff, visitors, and the animals who depend on us, we must act now.”
Supporters gathered outside the County Offices at Ty Dewi Sant, Ewloe today, Wednesday 3 December to show support as councillors arrive for meetings.
The campaign, backed by local councillors, has already gathered more than 1,000 signatures on a Change.org petition titled “Slow Down for Paws & People”.
The petition calls on the council to carry out a speed and risk assessment, reduce the limit to between 20 and 40 mph, and install clearer warning signs for drivers.
It argues that lower speeds would mean fewer crashes and safer conditions for volunteers, visitors, farmers, and local traffic, as well as protection for animals regularly walked along the road.
