Flint Town United have issued a statement condemning racism after an alleged racist remark was heard during their Welsh Cup match against Airbus UK Broughton FC at Cae-y-Castell on Saturday.

The incident happened during a brief pause in play when Flint player Isaac Lee was shown a yellow card. A remark can be heard on the match footage, prompting an investigation by the Football Association of Wales (FAW).

In a statement, Flint Town United said:

“Flint Town United is aware of an incident that occurred during Saturday’s home fixture against Airbus UK Broughton.

“During a brief altercation in the match, at the moment our player Isaac Lee was shown a yellow card, an alleged racist remark can be heard on the match footage. Flint Town United strongly condemns racism in all its forms, and we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.

“We are working with Airbus UK Broughton and the Football Association of Wales, and we will fully support all aspects of the investigation.

“If any supporter, volunteer, or individual who was near the TV gantry or in the surrounding area has information that could help with the investigation, we encourage you to contact Flint Town United ([email protected]
) or the Welsh FA.”

Airbus UK Broughton FC also released a statement confirming they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

“Airbus UK Broughton strongly condemns racism in all its forms, and we are treating this matter very seriously.

“We are working with Flint Town United and the Football Association of Wales, and we will fully support all aspects of the investigation.”

Flint advanced to the next round of the Welsh Cup following a 1–0 win over Airbus, setting up a tie against Penybont, the highest-ranked side left in the competition.

However, the Football Association of Wales has also faced criticism this week over the integrity of the Welsh Cup draw.

According to a report by the BBC, details of some fourth-round fixtures appeared on social media more than two days before the FAW’s official draw broadcast. One top-flight club questioned the credibility of the process after learning that the draw had been held earlier in the week.

In response, the FAW defended its long-standing practice of pre-recording cup draws, saying it allows equal presentation and higher production quality across its competitions. It confirmed that the leak “undermined the excitement” of the announcement and said an internal investigation has been launched to establish how the information was shared ahead of schedule.

Flint Town United described themselves as “appalled that speculation on social media since Tuesday has proved correct, with regards to the integrity of the draw.”
