A young scooter rider from the Wirral who trained at Deeside Leisure Centre Skate Park has been crowned Women’s Park World Champion 2025.

Eighteen-year-old Neve Entwistle from Bromborough took first place at the competition in Japan, beating some of the world’s best riders to secure the title.

Neve first began riding at the Deeside Skate Park aged 13 and continues to train and coach there while competing internationally.

Neve said: “I’m so proud to have won and become World Champion, it’s nice to know all the hard work and practice I’ve put in has paid off. I’d like to say a big thank you to my parents, sponsors at Chilli Scooters & everyone else that has supported me along the way including everybody at Deeside Skate Park. I’m now looking forward to seeing what the future brings for me.”

Gwella Managing Director, Andrew Bentley BEM, said: “Deeside is known across the country for its ice-skating heritage, but we want to put our skate park athletes on the map too. We are incredibly proud of Neve. She is an outstanding role model for young people in Deeside and a brilliant ambassador for the sport. Seeing someone who learned right here in our skate park become a world champion is inspiring for every child who walks through our doors.”

Neve continues to deliver scooter coaching sessions at Deeside Skate Park, including beginners’ lessons and structured clubs.

Gwella reports growing interest in scooter and skate park activities this season, with more families choosing action sports to help young people stay active and confident.

Andrew added: “Skate Park sports offer huge benefits for young people, from physical activity and balance to confidence, resilience and social connection. Kids learn new skills, make friends and stay active in a safe, supervised environment. That is exactly what Gwella aims to promote.”

The Deeside Skate Park offers sessions for scooters, BMX riders and skateboarders, with inclusive options for all abilities. Coaches support participants to build skills and confidence at their own pace.
