Deeside driver charged after roadside drink test failure

A motorist has been charged after failing a roadside breath test in Deeside, North Wales Police have confirmed.
Shortly before midnight on Sunday, officers received a call from a member of the public concerned about the way a vehicle was being driven in the Deeside area.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit located the vehicle and carried out a roadside breath test, which showed a reading of 125 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – more than three times the legal limit.
The man was arrested, later failed to provide a sample in custody, and has since been charged to appear before the courts in the new year.
The arrest comes as part of North Wales Police’s ongoing #OpLimit campaign, a month-long operation running through December to target drink and drug drivers.
Sergeant Emma Birrell of the Roads Crime Unit said the force remains committed to keeping roads safe across the region:
“We have a zero-tolerance approach to drink and drug driving all year round. We will continue to carry out intelligence-led patrols, particularly during the festive season, to identify those putting lives at risk.”
She urged drivers to think carefully before getting behind the wheel:
“Anyone caught faces a minimum 12-to-18-month disqualification and could lose their job or their home. Worst of all, they could kill themselves or someone else. It simply isn’t worth the risk.”
So far in 2025, North Wales Police have made 828 arrests for drink driving and 1,217 for drug driving across the region.
Anyone with concerns about someone driving under the influence is urged to contact police via Live Chat at northwales.police.uk, call 101, or 999 in an emergency, or report anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
