Flintshire County Council is reviewing barriers across its local cycle network to ensure routes are safe, accessible and inclusive for all users.

The review forms part of the Council’s Inclusive Impact Assessment, which looks at how each barrier affects accessibility, safety and compliance with the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Act Guidance (2021).

The Council said it is committed to creating a cycle network that is safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone.

While barriers can be necessary for safety or access control, they can also present difficulties for people with disabilities, mobility aid users, families with pushchairs, adapted cycle users and less confident cyclists.

Each barrier will be reviewed individually, with recommendations that could include removal, adjustment or retention if deemed necessary and proportionate.

Flintshire County Council said it wants to engage directly with specialist user groups and representatives of vulnerable communities to ensure decisions are informed by lived experience and practical perspectives.

Three public drop-in sessions were held at Deeside Leisure Centre and the Jade Jones Pavilion in Flint some time ago.

Two further drop-in events have now been arranged for this month:

Thursday 23 January 2026, 10am–4pm at Deeside Leisure Centre, Chester Road West, Queensferry

Monday 26 January 2026, 10am–4pm at Flintshire Connects, Old Town Hall, High Street, Holywell

An online consultation is also open, with feedback invited on 79 barriers located along the county’s coastal routes.

Residents are encouraged to comment only on the barriers they are familiar with.

Each consultation form includes photographs to make identification easier, and the feedback has been split into geographical areas including Saltney, Connah’s Quay, Flint, Mostyn and Talacre.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 30 January 2026.

For more information, residents can email [email protected] or call 01352 701234.

The online consultation can be found here.
