A housing association serving communities across North and Mid Wales has thanked residents, staff and contractors after collecting over £6,500 worth of food and essential items for families in need this Christmas.

ClwydAlyn Housing’s annual foodbank collection, now in its sixth year, was organised by staff in partnership with suppliers, partners, contractors and residents.

Donations were gathered from ClwydAlyn’s residential and community schemes and at its St Asaph head office, before being distributed to 11 local foodbanks across the region.

The collection comes at a time of rising need. According to the Trussell Trust, between April 2024 and March 2025, around 172,000 emergency food parcels were distributed in Wales, including 60,000 for children.

The charity reported a 20% increase in foodbank use since before the pandemic.

Louise Smith-Aldous, Operational Projects Health and Safety Officer at ClwydAlyn, who coordinated the collection, said:
“People are struggling and it is more apparent now than ever. Thank you to our residents, staff and contractors who have donated to our 2025 food bank collection; their kindness and commitment to help our local communities is invaluable.”

Suzanne Mazzone, ClwydAlyn’s Executive Director of Resident Services, said:
“Thanks to everyone involved in this year’s food bank collection. We want to reiterate to any of our residents who are struggling, please do reach out to your housing officer. They can organise a food bank referral quickly and confidentially.

“We can also help or signpost to additional support services including money management, benefits advice, or community organisations.

“And huge thanks go to our colleague Louise for organising this collection; it will undoubtedly be helpful to many families across the region.”

Food and essential items were donated to 11 foodbanks and community food organisations, including Abergele Foodbank, Christ Church Shotton Foodbank, Age Connects Flint Foodbank, Wrexham Foodbank Depot, Sussex Street Christian Centre Rhyl Foodbank, Hope Restored Llandudno Foodbank, Holyhead Foodbank Anglesey, Banc Bwyd Pwllheli Foodbank, The Community Cupboard Chirk Foodbank, Festival Church Prestatyn Foodbank, and Denbigh Foodbank.

ClwydAlyn also thanked several partner organisations for their support, including Wall Lag (Wales) Ltd, Castle Carpets North Wales, Bridge Garage Rhyl, D&L Contracting, MACP Deeside, Williams Homes (Bala) Ltd, Total Boilers Wrexham, Wakemans Caernarfon, K&C Construction St Asaph, Relm Construction, Law Construction, MD Specialist Cleaning, NWPS, Heatons, BGB Scaffolding, Litegreen, and the NHS Children’s Centre.
