Buckley firm launches smart fire door monitoring platform for schools and public buildings

A Buckley company has launched a smart fire door monitoring platform it says could transform safety across schools, housing and public buildings throughout the UK.
Parilon, set up by the management team behind the A&S Group, has developed a system that combines a smart fire door device with Sensorite asset management software and the REQI virtual inspections platform to provide continuous monitoring of fire doors.
The company says the system replaces the current model of periodic manual inspections, allowing problems to be identified and resolved sooner.
Mark Tami, MP for Alyn and Deeside, visited the Buckley-based firm and has agreed to assist it in seeking a public body or business to pilot the technology.
Parilon estimates there are tens of thousands of fire doors in the Alyn and Deeside constituency, with between 6,000 and 12,000 estimated to be under local authority control.
Fire door inspections are required annually but the company says they often take place less frequently due to cost and logistics.
Parilon says its system could reduce fire door maintenance costs by 50% and cut carbon emissions by reducing the number of physical inspections needed.
Group director Sean Coldrick said: “We never want to see another Grenfell tragedy.
“In time we hope that, just as smoke detectors have become a legal requirement in public and rental buildings, our smart fire door devices will be too.”
Mark Tami MP said: “Parilon are passionate about this new, Flintshire-created product which they hope will become a standard safety feature in all buildings requiring fire doors.
“In time they hope to apply the monitoring technology to other uses, such as CO2 monitoring.
“It’s been great to meet such an ambitious team, and I’ll be assisting them with casework to try to help them realise their plans.”
Parilon is now seeking a public body or business to take part in a pilot of the smart fire door device.
