Shadow Defence Secretary, Vernon Coaker along with Deeside and Alyn MP Mark Tami pay a visit to Airbus and Raytheon in Broughton today.

Mark Tami MP along with North Wales MPs, Ian Lucas, Member of Parliament for Wrexham and David Hanson, Member of Parliament for Delyn visited both factories and met with shop stewards.

Mark said,

“Both Raytheon and Airbus are huge employers in our local economy providing highly skilled and well paid jobs. Their apprenticeship programmes are a great example of how companies can develop talent within the local economy and should be used as a template for other large companies.”

At Airbus the group looked at wing production used for the A330 and at Raytheon the MPs looked at the sentinel programme which is used to support our armed forces capabilities and humanitarian efforts abroad.

Vernon Coaker MP said,

“I have been impressed by the skilled jobs I have seen on my visit to North Wales today, including engineers and logistics experts who all add value to the local economy. It’s also great to see businesses promoting apprenticeships and STEM in the area.”

“A future Labour Government will build on this by ensuring future public procurement contractors promote job opportunities to the local community and in particular through local schools with apprenticeships to train the next generation of skilled workers.”
