Bellway, which is delivering its Summers Bridge development in Garden City, has agreed to sponsor Flint Town United first team players George Maire and Jack Thorn for the season.

Nineteen-year-old George is a local product of Flint Town United’s academy system.

He broke into the senior squad last year and is known for his pace and attacking midfield play, with several league clubs already monitoring his progress.

Jack Thorn joined Flint from Aberystwyth Town, where he made more than 150 appearances and captained the side.

Comfortable in central defence or defensive midfield, the Hawarden-born player also poses a threat from set pieces. He began his career with Wrexham’s academy and is the son of former professional footballer Andy Thorn.

Bellway’s sales director, Jenny Bell, said: “With Flint Town United’s Academy recognised as one of the best in North Wales and the club flying high in the top tier of Welsh domestic football, we are delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor George and Jack. With many of our new residents at Summers Bridge keen fans of the Silkmen, this is the perfect fit for us.”

Flint Town United general manager Makhan Singh said: “Flint Town is very much a community-based club and all money generated through sponsorship goes towards funding and improving all teams and club facilities.

“A long-established and integral part of the local community, we have a thriving senior ladies team and academy sides from Under-8s to Under-19s. All sponsorships are important to us, and we are grateful to Bellway for their support of George and Jack.”
