Update: The A55 eastbound just past Broughton has reopened.

A traffic report states: “Slow traffic due to earlier collision on A55 Eastbound from J37 Whitley Drive (Broughton Shopping Park) to J38 A483 Wrexham Road (Posthouse Roundabout). All lanes have been re-opened.”

Earlier report: A collision has closed the A55 eastbound just past Broughton, causing long delays for motorists travelling towards Chester this morning.

Traffic is currently being held between junction 37 at Whitley Drive, close to Broughton Shopping Park, and junction 38 at the A483 Wrexham Road, the Posthouse Roundabout.

Emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance crews, are reported to be at the scene.

One motorist, Shaun, said on social media: “Been stuck on this since 9.45, so far more police arriving. Two fire engines, two ambulances, multiple police cars.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters attended a road traffic collision on the A55 involving a van and heavy goods vehicle. Crews used one hose reel jet to damp down smoke coming from the van and assessed the driver before handing them into the care of attending paramedics.”

Traffic sensors show long tailbacks extending towards Broughton.
