The Welsh Government and Flintshire County Council are to undertake a joint study into the possibilities of upgrading Junction 36A of the A55 at Broughton,
Minister for Transport Edwina Hart has announced today a study which will look at the whether there is a case for upgrading the junction on due to increased traffic and the availability of land.
The feasibility of constructing additional slip roads will also be considered.
The junction does not currently allow all traffic movements with a westbound diverge slip road and an eastbound merge slip road in place.
Minister for Transport Edwina Hart, said:
“I am pleased we will be working alongside Flintshire County Council to establish if additional slip roads can be justified and constructed at this junction.
“All considerations will be taken into account and work will now begin on studying the options.
“The A55 is an important route through North Wales and essential to the region’s economy.”
Flintshire County Council’s Deputy Leader Councillor Bernie Attridge said:
“This is an important issue for the community of Broughton as well as major employers such as Airbus, as the cumulative impacts of development and other improvements to the A55 nearby have and will continue to create local traffic pressures within the village that need to be addressed strategically.”
