Deeside-based Triumph Actuation Systems-UK & IOM has won a major new order to Assemble and Test Gas Turbine Engine Control Sub-assemblies for a major USA Prime Contractor.
The initial work package is worth £3.4m but will lead to further orders for the Assembly and Test of other Gas Turbine Engine Controls sub-assemblies valued at up to £10.3m
Support from the Welsh Government was crucial in securing this inward investment that will bring new technology to Triumph’s site on Deeside Enterprise Zone.
On a visit to the company’s Deeside facility today, First Minister Carwyn Jones said:
“This is excellent news and will enable Triumph Actuation Systems-UK & IOM to increase its capabilities and expertise, placing Wales at the forefront of aerospace and defence technology
“The company works in a highly competitive global market and I am delighted Welsh Government is supporting the highly innovative team at Deeside who are driving the business forward and successfully secured this new order.
“I was pleased to visit Triumph Group’s HQ in Pennsylvania last year and it’s good to see how the company is going from strength to strength here in North Wales.
“The new order and investment in new technology will support the company’s long term sustainable future in North Wales and enable it to diversify into new markets”
Triumph-UK were given the opportunity to bid for the work package which is currently undertaken by a sister company in the USA and Welsh Government grant aid of £67,000 gave the Deeside facility the competitive edge.
The funding will assist with set up costs and create 16 new jobs in leading edge Printed Circuit Board assembly and safeguard a further 7 jobs.
It is the second re-shoring project secured by Triumph Actuation Systems-UK & IOM for Deeside.
Last year on a visit to Triumph Group’s HQ in Pennsylvania, the First Minister announced that hydraulic actuation systems used in the landing gear for all Airbus A380 and A320 aircraft would be re-shored from China and undertaken at the Deeside facility.
That £5m investment in new facilities and equipment is backed by £392,000 business finance from the Welsh Government, creating 62 new jobs.
Triumph’s UK and Isle of Man President Mark McDonald said:
“Triumph’s specialist UK aerospace facility at Deeside is a World Class centre of excellence for the design and manufacture of Electro Mechanical Actuation, Electronic Assembly and Test and for Hydraulic Actuation Assembly and Test.
The invaluable support we have received from the Welsh Government for the new facility development last year and now for the investment in new technology will help ensure we lead the competitiveness challenge and remain at the forefront of manufacturing technology.
The new investment will also enable the company to rework and inspect other customers hi density circuit boards and extend our service capability which will also open up further opportunities in the MRO market.”
