RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after a cat was poisoned and shot in the chest by an air rifle.

Tabby cat Theo was found collapsed and dazed at Strand Crescent, Holywell on 23 December. He had been shot in the chest.

He was rushed to the vets, where sadly he had to be put to sleep on veterinary advice.

The vets found that he had also ingested a large quantity of rat poison.

RSPCA inspector Jenny Anderton said:

“Theo was still conscious when he arrived at the vets. He must have been in so much pain due to his horrific injury and it is heartbreaking to think what he went through along with his owners, just days before Christmas.

“It has been confirmed that the pellet removed from the cat was from an air rifle – a 22 pellet. It is unclear if he had been deliberately poisoned or if he had ingested it accidentally.

“Theo was around six years old and lived at Ffordd Fer in the Strand area of Holywell.”

Inspector Anderton added that the RSPCA would like to hear from anyone with information about this incident.

“Anyone with information about this incident should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.”

Theo’s owner said:

“It was dreadful that he was shot and poisoned. It was horrific. Theo was so full of character. He would follow me anywhere.”
