A respected doctor has been given a prestigious role on a Welsh health forum.

Dr Edna Astbury-Ward, a senior lecturer and researcher in the School of Social and Life Sciences at Wrexham Glyndŵr University, is delighted with her appointment to the advisory board for Public Health Wales.

She will specialise in sexual and reproductive health, an area in which she has worked for more than 30 years.

Dr Asbury-Ward, who joined the institution earlier this year, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the strong links that Wrexham Glyndwr University has in health-related policy and the wellbeing of the Welsh population.”

Deborah Roberts, Professor of Nurse Education and Clinical Learning at the University, added: “Dr Astbury-Ward will be able to have a direct influence on the public health agenda in Wales and her appointment reflects the high esteem in which she is held nationally.

“As head of the research centre for the School of Social and Life Sciences I am confident that she will foster strong links with the organisation in each of the priority areas, which will feed directly into our postgraduate and scholarly research here at the University.”
