Plans submitted for Pilates studio at Broughton Shopping Park

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

A planning application has been lodged to allow a Pilates studio to open within the existing management facility at Broughton Shopping Park.

The application, submitted by Broughton Unit Trust (Revenue), seeks permission to subdivide part of the first floor of the centre management office and change its use to a D2 class leisure facility.

The proposal involves minor internal changes to create a 73 square metre space for the Pilates studio, with no extension to the existing building.

A minor external alteration is also planned, relocating a fire door from the eastern to the southern elevation.

The planning statement notes that the new use is intended to support health and fitness opportunities for a wide demographic in the local community.

The site is located within an established retail and leisure area, with good connections to public transport and surrounding residential areas.

The applicant’s agent, CarneySweeney, states: “The proposed addition of Use Class D2 will support and complement the entertainment and leisure offer at the shopping centre. A health and fitness use sits comfortably within, and is consistent with, the use of the overall site as a retail, leisure and entertainment destination.”

It is also argued that the proposal would contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of the shopping area, supporting linked trips to other shops and services at the centre.

The application states that the proposal is in line with both national and local planning policies.

No significant external works or new public rights of way are proposed. The site is not within a flood risk area, and no protected species or habitats are expected to be affected.

The application is now under consideration by Flintshire County Council.
