As revealed on Deeside.com last week: Manchester Phoenix Ice Hockey Team has now confirmed they will play their English Premier League ice hockey matches at Deeside in the forthcoming 2015-2016 EPL season which starts in September.

The team will remain at Deeside until a permanent 3000 seat new arena in Manchester, currently under negotiations, is complete.

Fans of the Manchester based team will be bussed into Deeside for free by the team, they are providing four 100-seat luxury coaches.

Each coach will host a pre-match commentator to keep Phoenix fans informed of club and league news, and the game that day.

Councillor Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Management, Public Protection and Leisure at Flintshire County Council, said:

“We have helped The Phoenix out before by providing ice time, and we’re only too happy to do it again.

“Having an EPL side here at Deeside Ice Rink, alongside our very own Deeside Dragons, is a great feather in the cap for Flintshire County Council.

“We believe in providing value for money for our residents, and this deal will also bring considerable private investment into the infrastructure of Deeside Ice Rink.”

Phoenix owner, Neil Morris, said:

“Moving to Deeside, albeit on a temporary basis, means we must help our fans in any way possible. That is why we are offering free travel for ticket holders, to and from games at Deeside.

“We want this offer to help new supporters as well, which is why we’ll have pick-up points across Manchester. That way, we’ll hopefully bring the sport to more and more people.

“The trip to Deeside takes just over 30 minutes, which will give fans the chance to mingle, make friends and strengthen the famous Phoenix faithful.”

On the home front we ‘hear’ there could be a big announcement from our own Deeside Dragons in the near future! more later as they say…
