Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for Flintshire this weekend

Flintshire residents are being warned to prepare for possible disruption this weekend, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the area on Saturday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering large parts of Wales, including Flintshire, with the risk of spray, sudden flooding, and hazardous driving conditions.
The warning is in place from midnight until 6pm on Saturday (14 June).
The Met Office says there is a small chance that some homes and businesses could flood quickly, with potential damage from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. There is also a slight chance that fast flowing or deep floodwater could pose a danger to life.
Other risks include possible power cuts, disruption to public transport, and difficult driving conditions on local roads.
According to the forecast, heavy rain and thunderstorms will move north across parts of England and Wales early on Saturday, followed by further heavy showers later in the day.
Some locations could see 30 to 50mm of rain falling in a few hours, with the possibility of 60 to 80mm in some areas.
Strong gusts of wind and hail may also accompany the storms.
The Met Office is advising people to consider whether their location is at risk of flash flooding and to take steps to protect property and stay safe.
Travellers are urged to check road conditions and transport timetables and to adjust plans if needed.
People are also reminded to prepare for possible power cuts by gathering torches, batteries and other essentials, and to avoid sheltering under trees during a thunderstorm.
Natural Resources Wales said:
“Heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast across most of Wales until Saturday, with a Met Office yellow weather warning currently in force. Minor surface water flooding impacts are possible during this period.
“We do not provide flood warnings for flooding from surface water, where rainwater does not drain away through the normal drainage systems or soak into the ground.
“The sporadic and intense nature of rainfall that causes surface water flooding makes it very difficult to accurately predict where surface water flooding will occur.
“We recommend that you check your local weather forecast, check your journey before you travel and monitor your local surroundings.
“You can check your journey or get updates on road closures from the Traffic Wales website or by calling their information line 0300 123 1213.
“For the latest flooding information and advice on what to do before a flood, check our website or call 0345 988 1188.”
