Four Deeside skaters compete at British Solo Ice Dance Championships in Sheffield

Four ice skaters who train at Deeside Leisure Centre are competing at the 2026 British Solo Ice Dance Championships at Ice Sheffield this week.

Lily Bakhtiari, Liza Dawson, Blake Cairns and Jaime Cliffe are all representing North Wales at the championships, which run from 13 to 17 April.

Bakhtiari is competing in the Junior category.

Dawson, Cairns and Cliffe are all entered at Intermediate Novice level.

All four train under coach Ryan Southan at Deeside Ice Arena, which operators Gwella describe as the only Olympic-sized ice rink in North Wales.

A Gwella spokesperson said: “Having four skaters competing at a national championships is a fantastic achievement and reflects the strength of the programme at Deeside. It’s something the whole region can be proud of.”
