Flintshire Liberal Democrats pay tribute to councillor Hilary McGuill

News and Info from Deeside, Flintshire, North Wales

Flintshire County Council councillor Hilary McGuill has died, the Flintshire Liberal Democrats have announced.

Hilary McGuill represented Argoed and New Brighton ward and had served the council and the Liberal Democrat party for decades.

In a statement, the Flintshire Liberal Democrats said: “Hilary’s commitment to public life was extraordinary in its length, its consistency and its integrity. She gave so much of herself to this county, and she did so with a sense of duty that never wavered.”

The party said she had brought “steadfastness and moral clarity that earned deep respect across political lines” and had approached every responsibility with “determination and a quiet strength.”

Her work included supporting Afghan families as they settled in Flintshire communities.

The statement said: “She offered not only practical help but genuine welcome, ensuring that people arriving in difficult circumstances found dignity, safety and a sense of belonging.”

The party added: “Her commitment to social justice and her belief in giving a voice to those who might otherwise go unheard were evident in everything she did.”

The statement concluded: “Flintshire has lost a devoted public servant, our party has lost a trusted and longstanding colleague, and many of us have lost a friend.”

Cllr Christine Jones, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Social Services and Wellbeing said Hilary was “such a lovely lady. I was proud to call her my friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, her colleagues and the residents in her Ward. I will miss her very much. Hilary was a very special lady.”

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
