Deeside selected by the Welsh Government as a potential target area for up to £15m funding.
The Welsh Government Vibrant and Viable Places programme was launched in May 2013 and all local authorities were invited to submit competitive proposals.
Eleven areas have been selected by Welsh Government to submit more detailed applications by 25 November 2013 and the Flintshire County Council bid for the regeneration of Deeside has been included.
The Council submitted a programme of work including transport improvements, housing investment, town centre regeneration and action to support business growth and skills. This success follows previous achievements; securing Communities First, Housing Renewal Area and Enterprise Zone programmes.
Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of Flintshire County Council said:
“This positive news from Welsh Government reflects the well thought-out approach to regeneration in Deeside. The Council and its partners have developed an ambitious and exciting programme to link the economic opportunities created by the Deeside Enterprise Zone to the wider area, spreading the benefits across Deeside, Flintshire and wider region. If we are successful in becoming a Vibrant and Viable Places area it will be a major boost to the economy of Flintshire as a whole and would bring £15 million of new investment over three years.”
Successful areas will be notified in January 2015 and work will start in April.
