Airbus UK Broughton’s Development side recorded an 8-1 victory over their Bala Town counterparts at the Airfield in their latest Welsh Premier Academy fixture.

Coaching team Dave Riley & Lee Starkey were able to select a few over-age players to supplement the Under-19’s and this was reflected in a dominant performance.

On 19 minutes Steve Abbott opened the scoring, bursting into the area, evading the goalkeeper to pick his spot and make it 1-0. Four minutes later Bala equalised with a neat finish from Rob Jones. However a few minutes later Airbus were 2-1 up when Abbott netted again at the near-post.

With half an hour gone it was 3-1 to Airbus when Zyaac Edwards took advantage of a lapse in the Bala defence with a smart finish. It was not all one-way traffic as Bala had chances before the break.

Two minutes into the second-half it was 4-1 to Airbus when a clever lay-off from Zyaac Edwards allowed substitute Richie Partridge to drill home in the area.

On 58 minutes good work by Abbott set Zyaac Edwards up for his second with a tap-in at the near-post for 5-1. The same combination eight minutes later made it 6-1 and produced a hat-trick for Zyaac Edwards – showing exactly why Swansea City were so keen to sign him during the summer.

On 77 minutes Airbus substitute Aaron Hassall was fouled in the area by the goalkeeper and stepped up to take the penalty himself, firing low into the corner to make it 7-1.

With seven minutes to go the scoring was rounded off with another close finish from Zyaac Edwards to make it 8-1 and take his night’s personal tally to four.

The visitors were much better than the final score suggested but were unlucky to meet an Airbus side that were clinical in taking their chances.
