Range of attractions on offer as university opens its doors to prospective students

A flight simulator, portfolio workshop, social media session and campus tours will be among the attractions available to prospective university students this weekend.

Wrexham Glyndwr University will play host to an open event on Saturday 3rd March – with staff and lecturers on hand between 10am and 2pm offer advice and information on the institution’s courses and facilities.

Attendees can explore the campus and facilities with a student ambassador, join talks, activities and workshops as well as meet lecturers, current students and experts on topics including accommodation, fees and finance.

The open day is also chance to find out about Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s courses and why it has received a Silver Rating in Teaching Excellence (TEF 2017).

General campus tours depart from the Sports Centre every 30 minutes, beginning at 10am. One to one advice on student funding and welfare matters is available as well as on personal statements and interviews.

There will be a host of activities taking place across the Wrexham campus, including tours of lab facilities in the science department and a chance to check outthe Merlin flight simulator and the home of Glyndwr Racing in the engineering department.

Tutors from Creative Media Technology showcasing the university’s TV, Sound and Music Technology facilities within the Centre for Creative Industries. There will also be a session on social media for creatives and a theatre, television and performance workshop.

There will be a shuttle bus to the School of Creative Arts in Regent Street where there will be talks on design and applied and fine arts, a portfolio workshop and regular tours of the building.

For students interested in animal, equine or bioscience courses, the Northop campus will hold a subject specific open day from 10am to 2pm.

Julie Cowley, head of partnerships, recruitment and admissions, said: “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in studying at Wrexham Glyndŵr University to visit the campus and see what we have to offer.”

Snow warnings have been issued for this week in parts of north Wales, including Wrexham. At this moment in time, the university’s open day is expected to go ahead, however those attending should check social media and their email for updates. If there is heavy snowfall, some talks and events scheduled for the day may have to be cancelled if staff are unable to get on to campus.

In the event of snow, those attending are urged to take extra care if travelling into campus, allowing plenty of time for their journey.

Booking is advised but attendees can just turn up on the day and register at the Sports Hall at the Wrexham campus.
