Women in stable condition after falling from Flintshire Bridge into River Dee

A Connah’s Quay women in her 30’s is in Aintree Hospital today following a fall from the Flintshire bridge into the river Dee on Sunday, her condition is described as stable.

The incident was one of two that happened on Deeside bridges within minutes of each other. 

North Wales Police were called to the Flintshire bridge area over the river Dee in Connahs Quay at around 4.30pm on Sunday 12th October, following an alert from a member of the public who was concerned for a woman’s safety. 

The Flint Lifeboat was called out at 4:45pm to reports of a female threatening to jump into the River Dee from the Flintshire Bridge in Connah’s Quay.

Flint Coastguard reported that a women fell 50ft from the bridge into the water below, the Flint Lifeboat was launched from the slipway to recover her.

Rescue teams stationed along the slipway opposite Deeside Water Ski Centre helped the Lifeboat crew bring the injured woman ashore.

The Police moved a large group of onlookers away from the car park area of Dock Road and a coast guard officer was heard to request an air ambulance however, an emergency ambulance arrived on scene and the female was transferred into it.

We were told by one local who had been fishing on the river bank that he’d seen a person fall into the water from Flintshire bridge and that the Lifeboat got too them quickly. 

A Police spokesperson said:

“North Wales Police received a phone call from a member of the public concerned about the safety of a woman seen walking in the vicinity of the old power station in Connahs Quay.   Officers were dispatched and a short time later she was located on the new bridge over the Dee in Connahs Quay.   Unfortunately officers were unable to secure the woman before she fell from the bridge into the river. She was very quickly recovered by the inshore lifeboat.”

“The woman, who is local to the area and aged in her 30’s was conveyed to the Countess of Chester  hospital  and later to Aintree hospital in Liverpool where her condition is described as stable.”

A Welsh Ambulance service spokesperson said;
“We were called by police at 5.30pm.
Responded with one crew in an emergency ambulance, and a woman in her 30s with serious injuries was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.”

In a separate incident Police were called to the ‘Blue Bridge’ in Queensferry at 4:40pm on Sunday following concerns for another women, Police say she was taken to a place of safety, a Coastguard Rescue Team was also called to the incident.

Flint Coastguard posted an update on their Facebook page ;

‘Team paged by Liverpool MRCC to assist North Wales Police to two separate incidents both despondent females threatening to jump, one on the Blue Bridge Queensferry who was in police custody when *CRO arrived on scene.The second on the Flintshire Bridge, Connah’s Quay. Female did jump but was rescued by Flint Lifeboat Crew and transferred to an ambulance. Also in attendance North Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Service and Flint RNLI. Hoylake *CRT also on route but stood down.’

It is the second incident in as many days where Flint Lifeboat has been called into action at Connah’s Quay.

Early on Saturday morning 11th Oct, they were called out to help search the River Dee for a male who Police were chasing.

Flint Coastguard say they were paged at 4.45am to back up North Wales Police after a male they were chasing jumped over railings and into the water at Dock Road Connah’s Quay.

It was confirmed to the Lifeboat team on arrival at Connah’s Quay the male had been located and retrieved from the water and was in Police custody
