The majority of the proposed cycleway will follow the line of the existing All Wales Coastal Path between the A548 in Tan Lan to the junction with Station Road in Talacre, with a section going around the point of Ayr Colliery.

This section of the Coastal Path will be closed until the end of September when the works will be completed.

Also, access to the Bird Hide at the Point of Ayr Colliery will be prohibited during the construction works.

Once complete the cycleway will provide a continuous cycling link from the north of Mostyn through into Ffynnongroew and onto Talacre then continuing along National Cycle Network 5 into PrestatynThree schemes have already been completed as part of the “Linking Flintshire’s Communities” project which started in 2011: Installation of a Pegasus Crossing at Gronant, a Public Footpath enhancement scheme at Mostyn and an on/off road cycleway between Mold/Sychdyn and Northop/Flint.

Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment said

“The Linking Flintshire’s Communities project aims to deliver environmental, social and economic sustainability objectives, particularly around transport and climate change, social cohesion and connectivity and by enhancing, developing and promoting a series of footpaths, cyclepaths and bridleways within rural Flintshire”.

The project has received approximately £715K of funding by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Other funding has been provided through the Regional Transport Fund, the Local Transport Fund and Flintshire County Council and is in the region of £500,000.
