Flintshire Council has announced plans to introduce waiting restrictions on the Highway, Hawarden, between Wood Lane and Upper Aston Hall Lane and up to the junction with Oakfield Road.

It follows a campaign launched by Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant after dozens of residents of Carlines Avenue in Ewloe attended one of his advice surgeries in May.

They asked for help solving traffic problems near their homes during pick-up and drop-off times at the nearby Penarlag School and claimed some motorists were parking across and even on their driveways.

Mr Sargeant arranged for a site visit to take place on behalf of residents with councillors, Flintshire Council officials and the school’s headteacher in July to see how the problems could be addressed and this week received a letter from the local authority detailing the restriction plans.

Officers also pledged to send traffic enforcement officers to the area if the potential solution does not work.

Carl said:

“I’m really pleased Flintshire Council are taking this problem seriously and have acted swiftly to reach a potential solution.
“I hope this will alleviate problems for residents, but would urge them to keep in touch with me regarding the situation, so I can continue to help and step in if the issues are not tackled properly.
“I would like to extend my thanks to councillors Bernie Attridge and Helen Brown, who attended the site meeting with me, as well as officers from the Streetscene and transport departments at Flintshire Council.”
