A driver was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crash on the A494 Aston Hill left a motorcyclist needing hospital treatment.

The collision happened just before 6pm on Monday evening, the eastbound carriageway of the A494 was closed for around an hour as emergency services dealt with the collision.

The incident caused major traffic disruption along the A494 and back along the A55 to Northop.

Police say the male driver of the car left the scene of the crash before emergency services arrived and was later arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after blowing 95 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the ‘legal’ limit is 35mcg.

He was also charged with failing to report an accident to the police, and leaving the scene of accident.

Traffic reports at the time said:  ‘A494 E/B Road blocked between Buckley and Queensferry and queueing traffic due to accident, a car and a motorcycle involved and lamp post in the road.’

It is believed the motorcyclist sustained a leg injury in the collision.

A Welsh Ambulance service spokesman said.

“We were called at shortly before 6pm on Monday 21 November to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the A494 in Aston Hill.

We sent a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance to the scene and an adult male was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.”
