Last day for Alyn and Deeside by-election nominations to be submitted

Today is the deadline for nomination papers to submitted by prospective candidates wanting to stand in next months Alyn and Deeside Welsh Assembly by-election.

The by-election will take place on Tuesday 6 February, it follows the death of incumbent Labour AM Carl Sargeant on 7 November last year.

Nomination papers must be delivered to the Constituency Returning Officer at County Hall, Mold, not later than 4 pm Wednesday, January 10.

Each candidate pays a £500 deposit which they will get back if they secure 5% or more of the vote.

Candidates can spend up to £100,000 in election expenses on items such as posters, newspaper adverts, websites and of course unsolicited material sent to voters like letters, leaflets and even emails. Admin, office space and staff can also form part of their expenses.

So far five candidates have submitted nominations to the Returning Officer they are:

Gresford Community councillor Sarah Atherton is the Welsh Conservative candidate. Read more about Sarah here.

Broughton and Bretton community councillor Donna Lalek has been chosen to stand as a Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate. Read more about Donna here.

Jack Sargeant has been nominated by the Alyn and Deeside Labour party as their candidate more here

UKIP said they will not field a candidate if Jack Sargeant is chosen by labour, “out of respect to the late Carl Sargeant.”
