The discovery of clothing thought to belong to a female and left abandoned on Saltney Ferry footbridge on Wednesday afternoon sparked a search which involved the Hawarden based police helicopter and a Coastguard rescue team.

Officers from the Flint based Coastguard rescue team were called into action after being paged by the Holyhead Coastguard operation centre at 1.45pm on Wednesday following reports of the clothing find on the footbridge.

The police helicopter from nearby Hawarden assisted the Coastguard search team rescue team as they scoured to riverbank from the Grosvenor bridge in Chester to the Blue bridge, Queensferry.

With no missing persons reported and nothing found during the search, a joint decision between Police and the Holyhead Coastguard operation centre was made to call the search off.

It’s been a busy week for the Coastguard teams working in the Deeside area, Flint and Wirral based teams were called out on Sunday and Monday following reports of a missing person in the Connah’s Quay area.

Coastguard teams and RNLI Lifeboat continued River Dee search today for missing person
