Carey Glass, Europe’s largest independent glass processor has announced plans to establish a major new production facility on Hawarden Business Park in Deeside Enterprise Zone which will create eighty new jobs.

The Welsh Government has worked closely with the Irish company to facilitate its expansion into Wales where it will be well placed to serve the UK and European market. Their investment, supported by business finance from the Welsh Government, will create 80 jobs over two years and recruitment will get underway this month.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“This is great news and yet another boost for Deeside Enterprise Zone and the advanced materials and manufacturing sector. I am delighted we are supporting this inward investment and that the company is confident the Enterprise Zone will provide them with an excellent operating base for manufacturing, distribution and sales for the UK and European markets.

“Apart from the creation of new jobs the new facility will also create indirect supply chain benefits for the local area including transport and logistics.”

Carey Glass is leasing a 80,000 sq ft industrial unit on Hawarden Business Park where there is room for future expansion. It will establish a flat glass processing facility to supply major developers of new infrastructure projects throughout the UK such as university buildings, office developments, airport terminals as well as new housing projects.

Bill Carey, Managing Director of Carey Glass said:

“We are excited to be a part of the Deeside Enterprise Zone.”

“Our new production facility in Hawarden Business Park puts us right in the heart of a manufacturing hub and allow us to better serve our UK client base. Our customers are extremely happy about the opening of this new factory as we can provide them with an enhanced service. We look forward starting recruitment in the coming weeks.”

Carey Glass currently employs 525 staff across two sites – one in Co Tipperary and the other in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. The family owned business, founded in 1965 in Co. Tipperary, has a 900,000 sq ft production centre in Ireland – the largest single glass processing facility in Europe. It also has seven tempering plants and ten automated production lines.

It has invested heavily in new technology and machinery and works closely with developers and architects to develop new innovative treatments and uses for glass in construction.
