Five arrests in Deeside after driver spots men stealing diesel from his lorry

Three men arrested on Sunday night for stealing fuel from HGV’s on the A55 as drivers the drivers rested have been jailed.

Anthony McDonagh, 38, Patrick Doyle, 23, and Jason Doyle, 38, all from Ireland, siphoned fuel from the the trucks in a lay-by on the A55 at Dobshill.

The men pleaded guilty to theft at Flintshire Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Two other men pleaded not guilty to theft and their cases were adjourned for trial in April.

Five men were arrested on Sunday night following the alleged theft of fuel from a lorry.

The driver of an HGV was parked up in a layby on the A55 while he took a break, he spotted the men stealing diesel from his lorry and alerted police.

Within minutes of receiving the call, North Wales roads policing, officers from South Flintshire and an Alliance Armed Policing Unit located a white Toyota van travelling on the A550 near Deeside Industrial Estate.

The van was pulled over by police who found it to contain drums full of diesel.

Police said five males had been arrested for alleged theft and were taken to the custody suite in Wrexham.
