Driver arrested following fatal crash in Caerwys

North Wales Police have arrested the driver of a vehicle following a crash in Caerwys on Saturday which killed a pedestrian and left another with serious life changing injuries.

A 42-year-old male driver of a Vauxhall combo van allegedly involved in the crash has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The man who died in the collision has been named as Ryan Draper, he was 27-years-old and lived in the Caerwys area.

Mr Drapers girlfriend was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by ambulance with serious life changing injuries, she was later transferred to hospital in Stoke.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision which occurred shortly before 00.45am on Saturday on the B5122 in Caerwys near to junction 34 of the A55.

Sergeant Jason Diamond from North Wales Police’ Roads Policing Unit said:

“We continue to appeal for witnesses, in particular to anybody who may have seen two pedestrians walking along the B5122 in Caerwys to come forward.

“Our investigation is ongoing and the family of Mr Draper are being supported by a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer.”

The family of Ryan Draper has issued a statement:

“Both Hilary and David Draper, and his brother Joshua are deeply saddened at the loss of our loving son Ryan who was tragically and suddenly taken from us.

We loved him so much and he will always be in our hearts. God bless him and we pray that his girlfriend makes a full recovery.”
