Kevin Forbes, Community Fundraiser for the Legion said:

“This is an exciting opportunity to support the country’s best know charity campaign in a defined area.

Training will be available plus the assistance of myself ,the Community Fundraiser.

The present organiser, has been in post for many years and has successfully transformed the local appeal into a major collection of over £18000 last year ,backed up, by support from local Legion members ,local cadets and students and members of the public.

Regrettably, through ill health, he is no longer able to continue.

Therefore we seek a dedicated replacement.”

This is the centenary year of the outbreak of World War One, the conflict that changed history and eventually spawned The Royal British Legion.

In addition to the traditional poppy appeal there have been numerous all year round fundraising events including, poppy picnics, honour walks, coffee mornings, plus the hugely successful Armed Forces Day.

In the background plans are already beginning to be put in place for the 2014 Appeal.

Town’s and village across Flintshire have volunteer organisers busy planning individual campaigns in their own communities.

Last year teams of volunteers in north Wales helped raise £460,000.

Nationally the Poppy Appeal is now approaching the £38 million mark in money raised.

The income allows the Royal British Legion to spend £1.6 million per week directly on welfare support for those serving and ex-service personnel and their families in need.

The Poppy Appeal is the mainstay of the funding stream for the Royal British Legions welfare work.

Anybody who is interested in the organisers post or as a volunteer in your local area please contact Kevin Forbes by email; kforbes@britishlegion.org.uk or by phone 01978 754593 for further details.

You do not have to be either a Legion member or ex forces to assist Poppy Appeal.
