Opportunist thieves gaining entry to homes through unlocked doors and windows and cold callers distracting elderly and vulnerable residents have been active in the county.

Detective Inspector Tim Evans, said;

“Without going into specific cases, I would like to remind householders to always lock their doors and windows when they are out and before going to bed. Do not to leave doors and windows unlocked when rooms are unoccupied or if you are in the garden and don’t leave handbags, wallets, jewellery and car keys on display.

“I would also ask residents to look out for their elderly neighbours, to report anything suspicious and for people not to deal with cold callers. Always check the identity of any unknown person who comes to your home.

“We have increased patrols across the county and are we offering advice and reassurance to residents. Please report any suspicious activity to police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
